How Mij Korsta feels about the Empire and Rebellion

Mij Korsta sees the galaxy as a chaotic and unforgiving place. His life on Toshara, shaped by the death of his parents and his rough upbringing, has left him with a cynical outlook. To Mij, the galaxy is ruled by those with power, and everyone else must scrape by however they can. He believes in survival over ideals and pragmatism over hope, having learned the hard way that trust in institutions or grand causes often leads to disappointment—or worse.

Living under Imperial rule has only hardened his skepticism. Mij harbors a deep-seated hatred for the Empire, blaming them for the deaths of his parents and the oppression he witnessed daily on Toshara. To him, the Empire is a vast machine of exploitation and cruelty, caring nothing for the lives it destroys in pursuit of control and order. While he despises the Imperials, he avoids direct confrontation unless provoked, understanding that overt resistance is often a losing battle for someone like him. When necessary, though, he won’t hesitate to fight back, especially against stormtroopers who overstep their authority.

Mij views the Rebel Alliance with a mix of admiration and apprehension. On the one hand, he respects their courage and their willingness to stand up to the Empire, something he wishes more people could do. The destruction of the Death Star was an undeniably bold statement, one that Mij begrudgingly acknowledges as impressive.

However, he sees the Rebellion as a double-edged sword. In his eyes, their victories, while symbolic, come at a steep cost to ordinary people. Every Rebel success only provokes the Empire to tighten its grip on the galaxy, cracking down harder on already struggling planets and systems. Mij is painfully aware that it’s often people like him—those living on the fringes, trying to survive—who bear the brunt of the Empire’s retaliation.

While Mij agrees with the Rebellion’s ideals in theory, he has no illusions about their ability to bring lasting change. To him, the Rebel Alliance is a well-meaning but ultimately idealistic movement, doomed to be outmatched by the sheer scale and ruthlessness of the Empire. He believes that grand gestures, like destroying the Death Star, might inspire hope but won’t dismantle a galaxy-wide system of oppression.

More importantly, Mij doesn’t see himself as a freedom fighter or a hero. His life has been about surviving, not crusading for justice. The risks of joining the Rebellion outweigh any potential reward, and Mij values his independence too much to pledge loyalty to another cause—even one he agrees with in principle. In his mind, joining the fight would only make him a target for the Empire and force him to give up the small, hard-earned freedoms he still enjoys.

Mij Korsta is a man caught in the gray areas of the galaxy’s conflicts. He loathes the Empire for its brutality and admires the Rebels for their bravery, but he’s unwilling to risk his life for a cause he believes is more likely to backfire than succeed. For Mij, the galaxy is a harsh place where survival is the ultimate priority, and while he may occasionally root for the underdog, he keeps his distance from fights he doesn’t believe he can win. Instead, he focuses on carving out his own path, playing Sabacc, and earning enough credits to stay one step ahead of the chaos.
